About Stupid Bad Memes

Welcome to Stupid Bad Memes. This is where I rant and rave about all the compressed stupidity that’s dumped upon the unsuspecting Internet in the form of graphical soundbites, also known as memes.

    • Ha ha…I don’t think anybody’s called me “neutral” before, but thank you very much for the compliment, and thanks for reading!

  1. I just discovered your blog, in fact I was on 9gag and found the meme telling me to google the patent number of a “cure” for AIDS. The third google entry was from your site. Ironic?
Anyway, I am really impressed by your writing and the way your arguments are presented perfectly. Often I read things that are good explanations for certain things but many times I felt like I still could have added things that the author missed. With your blog, that is not the case!
9gag is fun most of the time, but every now and then I find a meme and think, what is wrong with people? I am so glad that you try to educate those people (even if they probably wouldn’t visit your site since they are ignorant). With an expanding internet community come more and more people that try to influence others with their discriminating etc. etc. statements which are not helpful for society at all. Many things that are going on, especially in America, make me sad, because your (are you American?) country really seems to be going backwards in time sometimes or in some parts, especially with human rights and their precious freedom. For example, if you are a poor, black and gay woman, it does seem like you would have the same opportunities as an other person in the “land of the free”.
Sorry about writing so much… But I finally found a person who is able to analyze exactly what’s wrong with some people in society. Thank you!
(Sorry if I made any grammar mistakes, English is not my first language. Best wishes to you from Germany!)

    • Danke schön! I am indeed from the United States. I do love my country, which is why I try to stare down the idiocy contained in some of these memes. Sometimes…it doesn’t work so well.

But I really appreciate the compliments. Thanks for reading and for commenting.

    • I’m still alive! Thank you for your concern. Unfortunately, I’ve been pretty busy these past few months and I don’t have a lot of time to dedicate to writing. Also, the memes I’ve encountered recently are basically rehashes of memes I’ve already discussed. It’s hard to get excited about debunking the same stupid ideas over and over, if you know what I mean.

  2. There are not many blogs that exist today that hold up both a genuinely intellectual writing style and well fleshed out points and evidence. The internet has its fair share of stupid and bad memes, and I’m glad they’re brought to justice here. Thanks for the time and effort you’ve spent on this blog ❤

  3. maybe you could start posting once a week or something? do you have a twiter because I have about 40 memes you might be able to use.
    I love your wrighting!

  4. Thanks so much for providing this service! I teach middle-school, and my kids constantly see all sorts of misinformation in meme form and ask about it in class. Your careful, well-reasoned responses & source citations are really helpful.

I actually ended up here while looking for funny memes to introduce natural selection; I came across the Morpheus post, and clicked on it specifically to see what crazy person was arguing that evolution was somehow distinct from mutations, etc. I know those people are out there, but I’m glad to see a site combating fallacies rather than adding to them!

    • Hi Christopher,
For the sake of maintaining a wall of privacy, I don’t publish my personal email address. Sorry for the inconvenience. If you could let me know why you want to contact me, we could maybe work something out. Hint: If you’re going to offer me gobs of money, there’s a pretty good chance that we’re going to work it out.
